Seattle Center

As you’ve probably read from my previous posts Justin’s mom Gigi was in town visiting us this past week. We love having Gigi come to visit because we always have a good time whether it be relaxing at the house and BBQing, or out and about doing the tourist thing. We decided to take Gigi to the Seattle Center to see the Space Needle and there was a Japanese festival going on that same weekend. For those of you who don’t know Gigi is half Japanese so we thought this would be fun. Well the festival wasn’t exactly what we were expecting (in the food court with booths set up with class projects) but there were some amazing Taiko performers on the stage that captivated us for a good 25 minutes. Taiko means drum in Japanese, and watching them all synchronized hitting these massive drums was quite a sight!

Then we went to the Experience Music Project and Science Fiction Museum which are both in this incredibly modern, sculptural building. The space needle was reflecting on one side of the building and I thought it was really neat:) It was like a futuristic space needle!

First we did the Experience Music Project side which was really really cool. When you first walk in there is this tornado of instruments that reaches all the way to the ceiling. They also had a special section dedicated to Jimi Hendrix since he is from Seattle. Gigi especially liked this part because her and husband Joe are huge fans of Jimi Hendrix, and Joe is an incredible musician and singer himself.

Lastly we headed to the science fiction side which was filled with really cool memorabilia. They even had a Ninja Turtle! They had everything from yoda and the terminator, to the Jetsons. I totally geeked out at this big “window into the world of the Jetsons.” I sat there starring at it for a good ten minutes….

In the end the day was super fun, and Gigi’s visit was spectacular. It’s always fun having visitors because they remind us of all the cool things there are to do in this wonderful city we live in. Thanks Gigi for spoiling us rotten! We miss you already.
